Thanksgiving this year was smaller than usual, but a lot more work due to my mom and I deciding to cook almost everything from scratch. Woo hoo! It was fun and tasty. We tried to make everything from local and organic whenever possible. Our menu included:
- Heritage local organic bird (I don't eat meat, but the rest of my family does) - 29 1/2 lbs.
- Wild rice stuffed acorn squash
- Cranberry ginger relish (I had no idea it was so easy!)
- Creamy pumpkin penne
- Mushroom stuffing from scratch
Ok, so anyone that knows me knows that I'm a slob. Cleaning is not really my forte'. Every once in awhile my family demands that I clean the toilet and do some dishes, so I do. I have always tried to buy non-toxic cleaning products, but that's still consuming. I'm trying to convert my family to healthier lifestyle and leave a smaller footprint on our lovely planet. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Say it over and over, Rusty. Consume less. Ack, that means buy less. That means shop less. Sooooo, I've been trying to make my own cleaning products using natural products I might already have in my home. Here a few helpful sites with all kinds of easy to make cleaning recipes. Cheap, easy and non-toxic...it doesn't get much better, right?
